Loofy's
Vault

Iwas looking for a book up in my attic when I stumbled upon a map. I looked at it, and it wasn't just any old map β€” it was a good good treasure map. It was Loofy's treasure. I was stoked. I wondered where it started, and where it led to.

I packed my bag and headed off to the jungle. Near the entrance, I found a cave. I went in and went past many traps β€” spikes, swinging blades, holes in the floor. I went past all of them, and then I found something.

A key! I shouted so loud the cave echoed. I took it and left.

I passed a rainforest and climbed up the mountain, following the map the whole way. Thinking, thinking. I realised the key could open some door β€” but which door? I tried so hard my head started hurting. But I didn't stop.

I was tired, sweating, and thirsty. I was about to faint β€” and that's when I found it. A door, built right into the rock, with a giant lock hanging from it. I had my key. I approached slowly and quietly.

The lock was tricky: left, right, right, left β€” ten times. I stopped to take a break. I had a sandwich. I was tired. But I was so determined. And finally β€” click β€” I managed to open the door.

Behind it was a whole jungle. I kept looking, and found a board. It said: "Vault of the Loofys." Dug it here. There really was a vault. It had the best security in the world. I guessed the pattern… and opened it.

And inside β€”

…and then, Flopsy McQuill imagined…

There was nothing. Just a mirror, standing alone in the middle of the vault. Loofy looked at himself β€” really looked, maybe for the first time since the curse β€” and saw something extraordinary.

He didn't see a boy pretending to be a rabbit, or a rabbit pretending to be a boy. He saw someone who had climbed a mountain, outrun blade traps, carried a key halfway across the world β€” and still kept going.

The rabbit ears drooped, then slowly, slowly, they disappeared. The fluffy tail pulled itself in. The button nose smoothed out into a proper human nose. The curse had needed just one thing to break: for Loofy to be brave enough to become something new.

He stood in the vault, fully himself, grinning so wide his face almost couldn't hold it. Click. The mirror cracked straight down the middle β€” and inside it was nothing but golden light.
